...speaking of Eric Robert...

Mickey Rourke, in his many recent acceptance speeches for awards other than the Oscar, has called Hollywood to task for not taking advantage of the many talents of fellow banished crazy-man Eric Roberts.

My favorite Eric Roberts character was from a movie based on a James Lee Burke novel, featuring Burke's detective Dave Robicheaux. The movie was called Heaven's Prisoner and Eric played a local crime boss called Bubba Rocque. This is the only clip I could find, and you'll have to watch carefully as Robert's is only in it briefly...he's the dude with all the cornrows.

I saw this in the theater when it first came out, and years later I remember seeing it on one of those funny "movie" shows where the hosts cook dinner and talk about the movie. This one guy summed it up nicely when he said "you can just picture Eric Roberts locking himself in a shed for days on end till he got that voice down." So true, so true.

Dorothy, you are my queen...(Star 80)
