The Brave New World Lamp from Moooi

Today's NYT had some new products from the Milan Furniture Fair and this lamp by Moooi caught my eye...it even caught Fang's eye:
The description of the lamp at Moooi's website is as follows:

The Brave New World Lamp started as a concept piece of random thought-initiated construction. Following the example of old Far Eastern bamboo scaffolding the Brave New World Lamp was developed without a design or plan in place however each piece of wood is carefully notched and pegged together to form an integral part of the overall mechanical structure. The limitations of using small pieces of wood to create a large form allowed the design process to be as responsive as possible. Much like a sculptures’ relationship to their material.

Ah, hello, this isn't random, this is trebuchet-inspired. For over $3000 you get a trebuchet kit, albeit a very nice one in oak with custom designed counter weights.

One thing Fang and I know about are trebuchets. We had an abundance of trebuchets when the kids were little and we used our largest trebuchet to lob water balloons at Boy in the backyard.

Here's our little tabletop model:

We were well equipped when school science fairs rolled around.

Medieval Siege Engine or a Trebuchet:

Alleged "randomly" inspired Moooi designer lamp - you be the judge
